Situation
The offshore wind farm operator Veja Mate is confronted with two essential challenges. On the one hand, continuous damage monitoring for early detection of structural damage is required to enable improved planning and prioritisation of service interventions. On the other hand, the measurement of actual loads experienced during operation is intended to obtain approval for plant operation beyond the design lifetime.
In addition to these aspects, Veja Mate was interested in a partner who could set up a consolidated data platform and evaluate and analyze sensor and plant data.
Solution and Customer Benefit
The solution provided by fos4X was the retroX Monitoring system, consisting of a sensor platform as well as intelligent software, which uses data from vibration sensors for structural monitoring and strain sensors to record the experienced loads on the system and to detect yaw- and pitch angle misalignments. The associated early detection of damages significantly promotes the prioritization of service planning offshore. Targeted planning can not only reduce service costs but also ensure an increase in efficiency. To realize these advantages Veja Mate uses the data structure provided by fos4X.

The fos4X retroX Monitoring system was installed as a retrofit solution on strategically selected 10% of the wind turbines of the Veja Mate offshore park. Veja Mate is fos4X’s 1st offshore project, which was characterized by a successful & close cooperation with Veja Mate and Siemens Gamesa Renewables.
