Situation
With the aim of producing more profitable wind turbines and making better use of weak wind locations, the rotor blades of wind turbines are becoming larger and larger, as are the rotor blades of Nordex wind turbines. The longer rotor blades are subjected to higher loads. In order to withstand these loads over the entire lifetime, loads must be reliably measured and an intelligent control system implemented. To solve this problem, Nordex turned to fos4X.
Solution and Customer Benefit
The measurement of blade bending moments in real time enables active load reduction through intelligent control algorithms such as individual blade adjustment. In this way, loads, material costs and complexity in development and production can be reduced and the annual energy yield increased at the same time.
Implementation
The project required close cooperation between Nordex and fos4X, which was accompanied by transparent data exchange on both sides. All parties were able to gain new insights through the cooperative exchange and thus jointly optimized the system. The measurement fos4X sensor system was precisely matched to the platform and components of the Nordex wind turbine and got series integrated within Nordex` production.
